Surviving The Game As A Barbarian Episode 830
Eternal Hole(2)
Land of the Primordial Spirit.
Honestly, calling this place a hidden field was not entirely accurate. Depending on the situation, it could also become a raid map.
Even if you did not enter the way I did, you could still arrive here during Phase 4 of the boss fight.
More precisely, you would end up here while chasing the Primordial Spirit after it was driven into a corner and forced to flee.
Anyway.
I had taken the first step.
Since I had entered this place peacefully, the way to escape was simple.
Sun, Moon, and Star.
I had to roam the field, destroy a total of ten fragments of those three types, earn the right to leave, and then exit through the passage.
[Five minutes have passed.]
Before this greedy land swallowed me whole.
[The effect of status condition: Nourish the Earth has strengthened.]
Feeling the debuff on my body grow stronger, I lifted my hammer above my head.
The reason was simple. Honestly, if all I had to do was quickly move around the map and destroy ten fragments, I would have explained the situation and thrown that fast-footed thief in here instead.
However, light spilled out from the broken fragments and gathered into a dangerous shape.
[The knight order stored within the fragment awakens.]
In an instant, dozens of two-meter-tall knights wielding massive rapiers surrounded me.
They were Moon Knights.
Rank 5.
They weren’t that highly ranked individually, but they were troublesome to fight and probably too dangerous for the thief and the others.
Yeah, I should handle this myself.
With that thought, I smashed the head of the nearest knight with my hammer.
Of course, since they were quite sturdy for Rank 5 monsters…
Clang, clang, clang, clang!
I had to strike several times before I finally felt its skull cave in.
Crunch!
Ignoring the other knights stabbing at me with their blades, I repeatedly used the Swing attack on the same knight until it was completely crushed. It collapsed and turned into rays of light.
[You have defeated a Moon Knight. EXP +5.]
Okay. That was enough experience farming.
“Bethel-raaaaa!”
I charged forward with brute force, breaking through the knights that were turning me into a pincushion.
After all, just because there were bugs around me did not mean I had to kill every single one.
Time was already running out.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
Since I had drawn their attention, the knights kept chasing me, throwing their swords and even teleporting in front of me.
But I did not look back. I simply forced my way forward.
And unlike before, I no longer needed to wander around aimlessly.
[Having taken an interest in you, the Primordial Spirit guides your path.]
After destroying the first fragment, the Primordial Spirit began guiding me whenever I moved.
Like a path appearing in a forest.
It created a clear trail and led me forward.
Boom!
And whenever I strayed from the intended route, a wall would suddenly rise before me and block my way.
It was as if the spirit was saying, Stop wasting time and go break the stones that are bothering me.
If you know I’m helping you, how about getting rid of this debuff first?
I could not help thinking that it was a selfish bastard that only cared about itself. Still, there was no point provoking it. The only reason this method worked at all was because this “intended strategy” existed in the first place.
Thud!
Following the path laid out before me, I soon reached the second fragment.
Another Moon Fragment.
Well, there were still eight more to go. I would probably encounter the Sun and Star types eventually.
[The character has destroyed a Moon Fragment.]
[The energy of the earth grows slightly stronger.]
[The Primordial Spirit is greatly excited.]
[The knight order stored within the fragment awakens.]
Since I did not need the experience this time, I completely ignored the knights that appeared and continued along the path.
Clang!
I repeated the process again and again, destroying each fragment and moving on immediately.
Eventually, I reached the required number.
「The character has destroyed a Star Fragment.」
「You have defeated a Star Knight. EXP +5.」
「The character has destroyed a Moon Fragment.」
「The character has destroyed a Star Fragment.」
「The character has destroyed a Sun Fragment.」
「You have defeated a Sun Knight…」
Each time I destroyed a fragment, the number of knights chasing me increased.
Their numbers had already climbed into the hundreds.
But—
Doesn’t matter. Ignore them.
Honestly, I was confident I could stand there and let them beat on me all day.
The real problem was time.
「40 minutes have passed.」
「The effect of the status ailment [Earth Nutrient] has intensified.」
[The status condition: Nourish the Earth has strengthened.]
The point where I could survive through natural regeneration and potions had long since passed. Now, I could feel my life force being drained away in chunks. After a certain point, the rate would become impossible to recover from.
Still, this was the last one. I just had to destroy it quickly and—
“Huh?”
You crazy bastard…!
Boom!
I barely managed to divert my hammer’s path, slamming it into the ground instead.
I could not hold back my curse.
“Are you trying to get me killed?”
Sun, Moon, and Star.
Those were not the only fragment types in this field.
Earth Fragments existed too, and if I broke one of those, I would be treated as an enemy of the Primordial Spirit.
Of course, its color was clearly different, so telling it apart was easy…
But because it appeared right along the path the spirit was guiding me through, I had almost smashed it out of habit.
Why the hell did it lead me this way?
Just as I was about to get angry, I noticed the path continued beyond the fragment.
So I followed it.
Soon, another red fragment appeared.
“Haah…”
So it had simply been guiding me in a straight line toward the next target. I was still pissed off, but I put strength into my swing and shattered the final stone.
[The character has destroyed a Sun Fragment.]
[The knight order stored within the fragment awakens.]
Just like before, an army of knights emerged from the light spilling out of the cracked stone.
However, this time, I did not run.
There was no need to anymore.
Rumble!
The ground shook as if an earthquake had struck.
[The energy of the earth has noticeably increased.]
At that moment, both the knights summoned in front of me and the knights chasing after me stopped moving.
No, rather than stopping…
They were being held in place.
The newly summoned knights standing before me.
The hundreds of knights that had been pursuing me from behind.
All of them.
Well, “froze” wasn’t quite the right word.
It was more accurate to say they had been restrained.
An invisible force rooted them in place, preventing even the slightest movement. Their swords remained raised, their bodies locked exactly where they stood, as though time itself had stopped for them.
Then the greedy earth turned into a thick swamp and swallowed them whole.
Within seconds, the hundreds of knights vanished without leaving behind a single trace.
[The Primordial Spirit is very pleased.]
“If you’re happy now, hand it over.”
I had no idea whether the spirit could understand me, but the response came immediately.
From the remains of the final fragment, a new path stretched deeper into the darkness.
I already knew where it led.
The exit.
[The Primordial Spirit is grateful to you.]
If you were really grateful, you’d remove this damn field effect.
It almost felt as if the Primordial Spirit was saying it didn’t care whether I survived the journey out or not.
[The area’s vision restriction has been removed.]
[Character’s natural affinity has increased by +50.]
[Character’s earth resistance has increased by +50.]
Well, at least the stat bonuses were nice.
And I certainly wasn’t complaining about being able to see again.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Still, I had no time to admire the scenery.
I immediately sprinted down the newly opened path.
About five minutes later—
Boom!
The path came to an abrupt end at the edge of a cliff.
It reminded me of those stories about people blindly following their navigation apps and driving off cliffs. Fortunately, this really was the exit.
“Alright, now that I’ve found the way out…”
I quickly calculated how much time I had left.
If the map generation had been particularly bad, I wouldn’t even have had the luxury of considering anything else right now. In the worst case, I could have died before ever reaching the exit.
I can safely spare another ten minutes.
Maybe eleven or twelve if I want to gamble with my life.
Once the ten-minute mark passed, the field effect’s strength would increase exponentially.
“Let’s do it.”
I slammed my foot into the greedy earth hard enough to leave a crater and dashed back into the darkness.
After everything I’d suffered, I intended to collect what I was owed.
***
There were certain locations within the labyrinth that could only be reached by fulfilling specific conditions or through extraordinary luck.
I called them hidden fields.
Others referred to them as the Achievements of Gabrielius, or the Mysteries of the Labyrinth.
And—
“Oh, golden sand.”
A smile spread across my face as I looked ahead.
I had found one of those places.
Hidden fields offered far greater rewards than ordinary regions.
Just like this.
「The character has consumed Golden Sand.」
「Earth Resistance permanently increases by +3.」
SPLASH!
「The character has immersed themselves in a Suspicious Pond.」
「Soul Power permanently increases by +10.」
“Please, let it be an elixir!”
「The character has discovered a Primordial Mural.」
「Mental Power permanently increases by +10.」
「The character has opened a Tumbleweed…」
This place was practically a treasure vault, with hidden rewards scattered everywhere.
And honestly, it only made sense.
Now that my vision had been restored, finding these rewards across the open plains was ridiculously easy. It felt less like exploration and more like running around picking valuables off the ground.
It was like those old games where, after clearing a stage, coins exploded across the map and you had a limited amount of time to collect as many as possible.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
Even after gathering six rewards, I continued sprinting across the wasteland like a madman.
It wasn’t because I was greedy for more.
There was still one thing I hadn’t found.
The most important thing in this entire place.
“Haah…”
Since I had already come this far, I really wanted to leave with it.
[Fifty-five minutes have passed.]
[The status condition: Nourish the Earth has strengthened.]
Maybe I should give up and head for the exit.
If I moved any farther away, I might not make it back alive.
Maybe I should start turning around and search the surrounding area on the return trip instead.
Even while debating with myself, my legs never slowed.
Thud! Thud!
From experience, the thing I wanted was always located frustratingly far from the exit.
It was risky, but—
Thud!
I kept running farther and farther away.
That was simply the kind of game Dungeon and Stone was.
No pain, no gain.
And so—
Thud!
I squeezed every last bit of strength from my body and pushed onward.
Ten seconds.
Twenty.
Thirty.
Yet as determined as I was, my impatience only grew stronger.
Fifty seconds.
Just as I was finally about to give up and turn back before risking my life any further—
“Hallelujah…”
I found it.
A massive crater lay ahead, as though a meteor had slammed into the earth.
And at the center of that crater sat a small gray stone.
[The character has discovered the Element of History.]
Without hesitation, I rushed over and placed my hand on it.
Not because I intended to take it with me.
The thing was far too heavy to move in the first place.
[The energy of the Earth Dragon imbues your body. (2/3)]
Haah.
Do you know how many years it took me to obtain the second stack?
Still, only one step remained.
All I had to do now was kill a dragon to complete the set.
[The blessing engraved within your soul resonates.]
[The majesty of dragons is permanently etched into the character’s soul.]
With that, my barbarian body had inherited the majesty of dragons.
In other words—
“Behel-raaaa!”
I had finally unlocked the true Barbarian Dragon Mode.
[The character can now use Dragon Fear.]
